Learning as collaboration

Overview

Collaboration-centred education considers the interaction between students, teachers, and other stakeholders in the centre of learning activities. Collaboration typically takes place in distance learning, blended learning or classroom settings with a wide range of technology support. Designers of educational settings have to consider processes, roles, materials
used in the processes, and the tools that support the collaboration and production processes.

Important design questions include: How can existing technologies be used effectively in collaborative settings? Which interests of stakeholders have to be taken into account when new materials and tools are designed? What are beneficial interplays of co-located and distributed learning, individual and collaborative learning, content creation and content reception?

For this section, we invite teachers and learners to report on their creative and successful use of technology-support for collaborative learning as well as learning technology designers to share their best practices designing collaborative e-learning solutions as patterns. We also welcome experience reports of the application of patterns in the scenarios outlined above.
